homemade strawberry jam

This is probably my favorite jam. It is packed full of delicious strawberries and has the most amazing taste. It goes well with everything from toast to pancakes or even just eating it straight from the jar. It makes a perfect hostess gift in these little jars. (I order the jars from specialty bottle company)

It is really simple to make…only a few ingredients and a little time…lets get started

Ingredients

  • 5 cups strawberries fresh or frozen (from Aldi)
  • 7 cups granulated sugar (from Aldi)
  • 1 T. butter (from Aldi)
  • 1/3 cup rounded pectin
First measure 5 cups strawberries into heavy bottomed pot. Turn heat to medium.
Add the pectin and stir and mash strawberries. Let simmer for 1 minute.
Add all of the sugar and stir. It will be thick. As you continue stirring it will warm up and thin out. Keep stirring until it starts to boil.
Once it thins…add the tablespoon of butter, this helps to reduce the foam. Bring to a boil and boil 3 minutes
After boiling is finished remove jam from heat. At this point I let it cool for a few minutes, then pour the cooked jam into a pitcher…it just makes filling the jars easier.
*you want the jars to be warm before you pour in the hot jam…that way they don’t crack. So just soak the in hot water while you make your jam*

Directions

  1. Add 5 cups strawberries to heavy stock pan
  2. Add pectin…stir and mash strawberries and pectin for 1 minute on medium heat
  3. Add 7 cups of sugar…stir…continue stirring…mixture will be thick at this point
  4. Once the mixture thins add 1 T. butter…continue stirring until it boils
  5. Boil jam for 3 minutes
  6. Remove from heat and let cool about 5 minutes
  7. Be careful and pour hot jam into a pitcher…pour into warmed jars…add lids
  8. Let jam sit at room temperature for 24 hours to set up…refrigerate after that…ENJOY!
